Description

"King of the Marginata".  Sunshine Tropical Foliage holds the patent for the 'Tarzan'.  It grows similar to the marginata, but has glossy dark green wide leaves with a deep purple colored margin.  Grows in lower light with less leaf drop and thrives in the landscape with full sun or shade.

'Tarzan' is a distinct cultivar of Dracaena.  The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of 'Tarzan'. These characteristics in combination distinguish 'Tarzan' as a new distinct cultivar.

  • Upright growth habit.
  • Slender stems maturing into woody trunks.
  • Linear and fleshy leaves that are glossy dark green in color with deep purple-colored margins.
  • Excellent keeping quality; durable. Resistant to pests and drought tolerant.

We were awarded a U.S. plant patent and have re-produced the plant in tissue culture to increase production. We now have over 2 acres of Tarzan stock planted in Homestead, Florida.

Care and Handling
Grows best in medium to medium high light, however it will live in lower light conditions. Thin a few of the lower leaves before installation. The Tarzan loves water so do not let the soil dry out.

Typical temperatures for tropical plants, do not allow to freeze. Works well in a stand alone application as it makes a statement when used as a tree form. As a bush 3PP it will hold its lower leaves and remain full, more like a Janet Craig than a marginata, so it will fill up an empty corner, or make a great centerpiece with lower foliage or flowers planted around the base.
