The leaves are deep, glossy green, linear in shape and up to 18 inches long by about an inch wide with a sheathing base. The small white to purple flowers occur in winter and spring in clusters (panicles) from the upper leaf axils. They are followed by black berries. |
| Care and Handling |

| Partial shade or indoors with good resistance to pests indoors. Always allow moderate drying of media between waterings. Best at 65 to 75 degrees. Soil should be a peat, perlite and bark based with a focus of aeration. Fertilize with low ammonium mix and rinse periodically to avoid salt buildups. |
